Diabetes is a condition in which the sugar levels in one's body exceeds the required limits. There are many types of Diabetes. This condition arises when the pancreas which secretes insulin and glucagon loses its full functionality and slowly goes down in producing the amount of hormones required for our body.

The hormones which balance and maintains the level of blood sugar in a very narrow range in our body is Insulin and Glucagon. Insulin and glucagon are both secreted from the pancreas and are referred to as pancreatic endocrine hormones. If the Pancreas produce the required amount of Insulin and Glucagon then a persons sugar levels will be maintained as required and he or she will not become Diabetic.
As the blood glucose rises in a person's blood the Pancreas manufactures more Insulin and as the blood sugar goes down so does the production of Insulin by the Pancreas.
Glucagon is secreted by the alpha cells of the pancreatic islets in much the same manner as insulin...except in the opposite direction. If blood glucose is high, then no glucagon is secreted. When blood glucose goes low, however, (such as between meals, and during exercise) more and more glucagon is secreted.
Ganoderma Lucidum in the Treatment of Diabetes
Conventional treatment for diabetes uses medications to suppress blood sugar level. However, medicines don't cure it. It only reduces and maintains the blood sugar levels. Long-term medication for diabetes causes two main side effects. One is the hardening of blood vessels, causing stroke and heart disease. The other side effect is the interference with fats metabolism, causing a patient to become obese and to put on weight.
